Thorstein Veblen was an economist and socialist. He was a pounding criticizer of business society of late 1990s. His main focus was on the governing top class of the hierarchy whom he labelled as leisure class. Fashion and clothing were the two most important means through which individuals from this class maintained and strived for their esteem and social position. In one of the theories given by Thorstein Veblen in his book The Theory of the Leisure Class: An Economic Study in the Evolution of Institutions he pointed out that the financial activities of these leisure class individuals are determined by a way of life devoted to either maintain or acquire the reputation or the prestige (Camic & Hodgson, 2010).
