Strategy management is one of the major tasks for any company. With proper strategy and alignment of business goals and objectives to the resources, plans and actions of the company, competitive advantage can be attained and sustained for a long period. The book by Kaplan and Norton (2006) named ‘Alignment’ reflects one of the five key principles for aligning the measurement and management system of the organization to the strategy. The principle discussed is the alignment of organizational units to the strategy. Most organizations comprise of multiple units for business and support work. There are diverse units that are operated under the single corporation umbrella so as to capture the economies of scale and widen the scope of the business portfolio (Kaplan & Norton, 2006).

However, in order to attain the above-mentioned benefits, it is necessary on the part of organizations that they have a strategic tool for articulating the theory regarding how to operate large number of units within the corporate structure for creation of value that goes beyond what the individual units are able to attain on the basis of their own. The book discusses the role for an enterprise Strategy Map and the balanced score card that give clarifications for the priorities at the corporate level. The thesis of the book, proposals of authors, pros and cons, and the relevance in relation to strategy and competitive advantage are discussed below.
