TAB is an educational approach towards promoting creativity in art studies. This approach was developed in the class rooms of Massachusetts. This concept allows the students to learn and experience the work of different artists through responsive teaching and authentic learning opportunities. Teaching for Artistic Behavior is the group, which is significantly managed by the art teachers. It serves to enhance the way of choice based education in arts. The foundation statement of the concept is that “student is an artist”.
These artists are created through choice based learning and teaching environment. In the comprehensive choice based environment, students have the complete control over their subject matter, approach and also material. Art is created from the meaningful content derived from the lives of students, and it will develop a visual culture for the teachers as well. It will also focus on the interesting issues related to the multiculturalism (Teaching for Artistic Behavior: Choice−Based Art, 2008). These issues can be collaborative addressed by teachers and students. This will help to shape the creativity, learning and self-discovery in students.
Making their own choices, allow students and teachers to respect the real learning process and intrinsic motivation is also valued. The students who have confidence in their work, will feel more motivated. “Brain−compatible teaching and learning is appropriate and desirable for enhancing art making. Opportunities for scribbling, experimentation, and play are necessary experiences for beginners. Student understanding is the goal” (Teaching for Artistic Behavior: Choice−Based Art, 2008).
Creativity is very important in the contemporary world. It is important for different problem solving approaches, and also for finding creative solutions. Art education is the great way of promoting creativity, because it provides many ways, through a person enhances his or her learning experiences. Teaching profession in the 21st century is a challenge. Teachers require different techniques and process to develop learning skills and creativity in students.
The exact definition of creativity is not known, but different scholars have defined creativity in their own manner. These definitions state that creativity is an approach towards creative thinking. Teachers play a very important role in encouraging creativity in students. It is their duty to create such environment in classroom, where student can learn creativity through different approaches and techniques.
