With respect to the principles and virtues of health care ethics, it is evident that the professional practice of a RN is subjected to beneficence and non maleficence. Beneficence insists that it is essential to perform a research or a clinical trial based on the welfare of the participant and any activity that opposes welfare is treated as unlawful (Robin, 2011). On the other hand, non- maleficence highlights the quality of avoidance of harm or evil. Physicians are strongly objected to carry out treatments that might possibly ruin the lives and interests of participants. In this case, both RN and paramedical professional have displayed ethical conflicts through maleficence and non beneficence. These tend to be against their responsibilities in the healthcare sector. In spite of the patient requesting for non transfer, paramedics and RN have committed the harmful activity of changing her location which worsened her health and even let her die because of it (Backmann, 2013).
The stress developed by the patient is completely because of the immoral attitude of healthcare professionals. Health care ethics also highlights that every patient has the right to be respected for autonomy. Though there are medical issues involved in the patient’s body, the patient still has the right to take decisions and discuss the same with healthcare professionals. Healthcare ethics clearly condemns any act that goes against respect and autonomy of a patient within a facility (Elahi, 2011). This case of Elsie is a clear example to show that healthcare professionals have failed to understand her emotions and thus failed or even breached virtues. The registered nurse is subjected to code of conduct and code of ethics. The paramedic is liable to fulfil the code of conduct as suggested by the healthcare sector of Australia. The patient has her own rights and responsibilities and it is the healthcare professional that has to be ethical enough in their actions.
