All the above mentioned types of international companies basically differ slightly on certain aspects, more or less their functioning and structure remains same (Martínez‐Sánchez et al, 2011:715-736). When an organisation expands at global level, it is bound to hire human resource from various locations, which eventually creates a requirement for human resource management. In simpler words, it can be said, process of managing people in an international organisational setting can be defined as international human resource management.
However, IHRM can also be defined as various issues related to HRM which arise majorly due to internationalization of the business. IHRM is also various policies and regulations which an organisations implements in response to internationalization process of its business.
International HRM has several differences when compared to domestic HRM. For example, scope of activities in domestic HRM is limited, whereas in case of IHRM the activity range is much broader. In case of IHRM, HR issues related to employees occur with employees more than one nationality. On the other hand, in case of domestic HRM, employees are restricted to a single nationality. In case of organisations focused on international HRM they have to deal with various external factors such as government regulations of foreign countries.
In general it can be said that compared to domestic HRM, it is far more challenging for an organisation when it comes to human resource management at international level (Mesu et al, 2012: 120-138). IHRM basically cover activities such as international staffing, performance management for international assignment etc. In case of international HRM, an organisation can recruit its staff under categories such as
