The popular music industry at international level has become a subject of transformation and globalization is the major factor that has resulted in this transformation. The trends of globalization are increasing day by day and hence increasing the level of transformation in Chinese pop sector Tomlinson (1999, 2). Transformation is not just limited to transfer of trends and cultures from country to country but it is also resulting in enhanced level of integration among different cultures of the world. This process of increased integration among different cultures is known as the process of transculturation. “Transculturation is a term created by the Cuban anthropologist Fernando Ortiz in1940 to describe the phenomenon of merging and converging cultures. Transculturation encompasses more than transition from one culture to another; it does not consist merely of acquiring another culture (acculturation) or of losing or uprooting a previous culture (deculturation)”. Consequently the new culture is created with the help of this process. There is no way to isolate this new culture from getting influenced by the other cultures of the world and that is the reason that Chinese pop music is also influenced by Western cultures to a larger extent. The western cultures that are influencing Chinese pop music are quite different from that of China. A conflict is there between the moral values of people in Western regions of the world and moral values of Chinese people. All this is surely resulting in the deterioration of moral aspect of Chinese society because the negative influences are far greater than the positive influences of Western culture at least for the case of China.
Major labels including Sony Music Entertainment, EMI Group, Warner Music Group and Universal Music Group are playing dominant role in the music industry all over the world and these music labels are controlled by Western countries. The problem of piracy has become a universal issue and is being faced by all the major musical labels all over the world. Another major factor that is resulting in the deterioration of moral values of Chinese society is internet. Internet has ensured easy access to music all over the world and people are quite comfortable with the use of internet to access their favourite music (Beng‐Huat, 2001).
