In the year 2002, there was an introduction of a national system of some special priority payments for the frontline police officers. It was estimated by the Police Negotiation board that the benefit of this special priority would be restricted to not more than 30% and not less than 20% of the employee force. Further this regulation provided the police authorities and chief constables the power to decide which individuals of the total force would be benefitting from the priority payment system. However, they had to keep in mind certain conditions, one of which included the “specially demanding working conditions or working environments” (Cloisters.com, 2009). Accordingly, the police force of West midlands came up with the solution that these special benefits would be awarded to those sector officers whose work hours included at least 4 hours of night shift in between midnight and 6 am in the morning. This would be further calculated over a period of 168 hours. The individuals, especially some women were excluded from this 24/7   rotating shifts because they had childcare responsibilities
