From the 1990’s, there had been a consistent rise on the creation of the abstract art in the mainland China. There were a large number of artists during those times that had been scattered in different parts of China. These artists also got involved with a number of abstract art forms. This led to the establishment of a number of styles within the abstract art in the coming years. Most of the developments of the abstract art could be clearly observed in the city of Shanghai. The primary reason for the development of the sudden abstract art form in Shanghai was the colonial culture which had been existing in the city. There were more than 30 different artists from Shanghai itself. This led to the establishment of the city of shanghai as “the capital of abstract art”. A large number of exhibitions related to the Abstract art had been flourishing in Shanghai. Among many of those, the most popular one was “The Metaphysical” Abstract exhibition which held for more than 4 times successively in the Shanghai Art Museum.

Also, painting exhibition has been conducted to encourage the local artists and more than 12 artists were available to occupy the field of abstracts. Soon after 1990s, the art scene of Shanghai abstracts began when there were several new artists who participated in the exhibition and competition at Mainland. Gao Minglu (2016) was one such abstract artist who was extremely popular for his contemporary art that he tried to spread from China to all other countries like USA, and also created landmarks for his art works (Minglu, 2011). His popular and key publications include Inside Out: New Chinese Art which was done in 1998, Chinese Maximalism that was done in 2003, Yi Pai in 2009, Total Modernity in 2011 and the works continued.
