The various characters of the film are Ari Folman who was an Israeli filmmaker and served in Lebanon war. He was suffering from mental stress as he has guilt of lighting the flares during the massacre which helped the Phalangists in murdering the civilians. Miki Leon is represented as a war veteran who tells his horrifying experience of the war. The film also features Ron ben-Yeshai who was the first person to cover the massacre (Yosef, 2010). Zahava Solomon is shown as the psychologist who researches on the psychological effects of trauma and shock. The movie consists of many characters which actually participated in the war and their real life experiences.

The film is an animation film done with a combination of actual drawings and Adobe Flash tool. There is a famous interview scene which the director first filmed and then the video was used by the animation artists to do the animation. Most of the people would think that the film is done using rotoscope technique, but in reality the film is purely an animation. There are many scenes like the one in which the film is seen from the point of view of an RPG shell blowing up a tank which would not have been possible to film had the film not been an animated movie.
