The book written by Joseph E Stigletz, “The Price of Inequality” can be considered as an extreme comprehensive counterargument to both the theories, Republican laissez- faire and Democratic neoliberalism. As a number of successful economists run the gamut to centre left from centre right contribute in describing the bleak present due to seemingly developments that are unstoppable, automation and globalization (Stiglitz, 9). The author has considered the establishment of self- replication that is built over competition of meritocracy and this fact is defiantly rejected by the author holding specific notions of inevitable nature. The author seeks on shifting the terms involved in the debate. In the current era, America is known to be a nation with maximum level of inequality, and the least level of equality when it comes to exploiting and considering opportunities, amongst the advanced nations across the globe. While the forces of market play a significant role in this stark view, politics has been shaping these forces of the market.
A number of significant arguments have been placed by Stiglitz in his book against vicious circle for the growth of inequality in America. This essay will be critiquing the content of this book considering the arguments placed and point concluded by the author in his book.
The evidence related to the concentrating the income in the United States of America exhibits distinctive tendencies and features. It has been highlighted by the author that the United States of America managed on reducing the concentration of income at the top most level, in the duration and after the occurrence of world war two. This had been done by the policies of government for promotion of educational and social programs to accompany the middle class by high progression of income tax that helped in compressing the income being distributed for more than four decades.
