If another study was to be conducted on similar lines but as a follow up, the first thing is to ensure that it is less exploratory. The above study was exploratory. The purpose of exploratory research is to show different newer insights (Berger, 2015). It is usually not conducted with a specific purpose. For instance, the above research attempted to show how the newer communication technologies could help enhance communication. It also showed that transition to newer technologies might not be difficult for the aged person. Additionally, a range of methods from qualitative observation and interview techniques to the use of quantitative questionnaire techniques have been used.

Further research on this topic could use a single method with a specific question. The question could be, “Will the use of touch screen technology enhance the aged people’s communication capabilities?” The hypothesis assumed could be that the touch screen technology enhances communication capabilities for the aged population. More participants can be included as in 30-50 instead of 20. Problems of bias can be addressed by also including the participants from different hospital settings.
