According to Michael Porter there are two major ways by which a company can have competitive advantage, which are by means of lower cost or by means of differentiation (Porter, 2011). The two key advantages that the company will have in the international toy market are that of cost and differentiation.
Local Sourcing for Products contribute towards cost reduction: The product is eco-friendly and is made from recycled plastic and environmentally friendly materials. The competitors of Green Toys source their raw materials from overseas companies; however Green toys will contract only with local companies. Going green is an initiative that has to be supported not only in the making of the product but also has to be supported from the supplier end and the distribution. When products are sourced from the local companies then there is less fossil fuel created and also it helps in supporting the local jobs. This form of a local sourcing ensures that the products are much cost reduced compared to its competitors. Local sourcing enables the company to control its prices (Trent, & Monczka, 2003; Murray, 2001). When Green Toys Inc enters international markets, it will work with the local sources for its supplies and this will help it in controlling costs for its international consumers. As the case studies note the current prices for toys are higher than the normal toys, but with the local sourcing initiative it will be able to reduce prices in the long run.
Product Differentiation: The product that is made by Green Toys is eco-friendly. Most of the consumers in the international market as projected for the coming years are going to be educated parents. In this context the toys of the company can be sold better as educated parents will be more knowledgeable about the eco-friendly products.
