The old fashioned houses shown above depict the love and care the people have shown for their houses and have not yet discarded from their possession. The colour as seen is more of white wood’s natural colours of brown with some amount of polishing, and red in common between most houses. The change has been historic and the people has also been historic as they have been living all through the war years until the present construction urban boom that has taken the world by surprise and turned it into a large international financial district. The tall skyscrapers have not been able to beat the simplicity of the old fashioned houses which has existed since decades and some are more than a century old with a minor amount of wear and tear. The upkeep of the house is embedded in the religious values of the Chinese people who are still not willing to discard their old homes and move to newer ones(Yu, Fang and Xiao ling, 2004). The houses as seen depicts the cultural richness where each of them has a mountainous roof and resembles peace and calmness, whereas the present tall structures have been universally resembling upright capitalism and tries to dominate with their sizes.
The monument was a simple structure which had a clock at the top and was built of large sized stones. The monument is more identifiable with the local people of the past who share an emotional connection with it. The prime reason is that almost every family living there had one or more of their member either dies in the war or survived after winning the battle with Japan, and thus the monument is not just a standalone remembrance of the heroes who dies but it is of subjective importance to all. The location was more open that time and had no advertisement coming down from the tall buildings, less or no cars as it was meant to be free for walking, and walking was the best mode that was seen. The colours of the clothes of men also were dominantly black and women had more choices, though few compared to the current times. The times of the past was merrier for the people as the local people shared equal feelings of war and survival as there were no outsiders. This feeling slowly faded with timely deaths of the elder generation and the younger generation could not emotionally connect with the location and the monument as they had not felt the pain of the past.
