Immigration is generated when there develops a demand for skilled or mass labours. The countries open up their markets to other country’s labours to fulfil their domestic requirement and enhance the growth of their county. The usefulness of the skills of immigrants, existing labours, and the value of their skills in escalating the business is one of the prime influential factor for the demand generation of labours. The entry of immigrants earlier than 1970 was seen as supportive and they used to earn the same as their domestic counterparts and the lack of education or skills was made up by extensive training which equipped them all together. Card (2005) has shown in his research that the evidence of the negative impacts of immigrants in the US on existing and domestic labours has been scant and not evidentially truthful. He admits that along with the existing labours, immigrant labours also has beengrowing in the life economically, and even the poorest immigrant and domestic labours have their children finish primary schooling.

This shows that the mixing of the two set of labours, though skilled or unskilled, educated or uneducated, they do not seem to negatively impact each other, but instead provide a nurturing environment to all where the prospects of growth are more conducive. However, to a large extent, it is necessary to identify the qualities of the two sets of labours being substitutes to each other or complementing each other. When the immigrants and natives are equal in their skills, they can replace each other and in doing so one of them gains and the other loses. Thus, when an immigrant is considered to be a substitute to the native labour and the immigrant replaces the native’s job, the native will lose and the immigrant will gain. This will create a disharmony among the two and there may be legal implications of such practices.
